Food Crazy

There is a lot of crazy in New York. Just walk a few blocks, and you see it everywhere. And for a few minutes the other weekend, I joined the crazy.

You see, the very first Trader Joe’s recently opened up in Manhattan. And I actually waited in line to get inside. Seriously. I queued up for a grocery store.

The opening of a Trader Joe’s is a big deal here. We have a few Whole Foods, but the crowds and lines are intolerable. Beyond that, the grocery stores pretty much suck. (Hence my reliance on online food shopping.) I recognize the insanity in my actions. But, can you blame me?

Seeing that I am now willing to stand outside in line in the name of peanut butter pretzels, thank God the weather is getting better. It felt like California this weekend! We hit the mid-70s on Saturday and hovered around the low-70s on Sunday. I understand that I should enjoy this weather while it lasts, as soon enough it will be unbearably hot and humid. (And pungent.)

One last note. Coming home from work tonight, the sun had just gone down. As I was walking toward my apartment building, I was taken by how beautiful the Hudson River looked. It was this deep majestic blue, and the New Jersey lights shimmered upon it. Trader Joes, warm weather and a spectacular view … fabulous.
